3 Stocks to Sell for a Clean Slate Heading Into 2024
Monday, 6 November 2023, 23:56:38
Let’s not sugarcoat it – the topic of stocks to sell sucks. Obviously, with any talks about removing securities from your portfolio, you’re dealing with other people’s money and their aspirations. On the other side of the table, many jobs are on the line if the target enterprise stumbles further. But you got to ask yourself a tough question: would holding onto clearly struggling stocks to sell represent a better solution? In many if not most cases, the answer is no. Sure, some Cinderella stories may emerge but such rarities by default symbolize the exception, not the rule. A sports analogy may be helpful. A few years back, the Los Angeles Angels had to make the difficult decision to cut the great Albert Pujols. As awesome of a player as Pujols was in his prime, age catches up to everyone. Given his declining performance and the rise of other players, no room existed for him on the roster. Looking back in immediate hindsight, maybe mentioning the Angels is a bad example because they end up stinking no matter what they do.
3 Shaky Stocks to Ditch Before November 2023

Understandably, the concept of stocks to sell is a controversial one in the capital market. Let me rephrase that in baseball terms. As a manager, how long are you going to stay with a starting pitcher that just doesn’t have it? When you give up five runs in the first inning? How about 10? What’s the magic number that says, okay, I’ve had enough? It’s the exact same concept with stocks to avoid. For example, as much as everyone (seemingly) loves Shohei Ohtani, the man can’t pitch in the Bronx. Per Bleacher Report , in his two career starts at Yankee Stadium, he has allowed 11 runs in three and two-thirds innings . While that’s an extremely small sample size, it’s also unusually awful. So, it’s possible that the New York Yankees won’t pursue Ohtani for that reason in free agency. It’s nothing about the quality of the player Ohtani is. Rather, it’s just that maybe he’s not the right fit to wear the pinstripes. And that’s what we’re dealing with regarding these stocks to sell. For anyone outside of hardened gamblers, they might not be right for your portfolio.
